The OEM knock system isn't limited by processor speed at all since it uses analog circuitry to filter and integrate the knock sensor signal before it even gets to the microcontroller. The ECU knock control algorithm only has to be run once per engine cycle, and it is quite simple compared to say, the O2 feedback system. Nissan could have dedicated more CPU resources to it had they wanted.
